Immersion-cooled (submerged/direct-cooled) components and HV batteries
Electromobility brings new requirements for thermal management. In addition to classic liquid cooling systems, immersion cooling systems with special cooling media are increasingly being used. These include cooling oils as well as LECC (Low Electrical Conductivity Coolant) and LCC (Low Conductivity Coolant) – cooling concentrate with low electrical conductivity based on ethylene glycol.
LECC is a specially developed coolant that must be diluted with water before use. A typical mixing ratio is 33 to 60 vol.%, in practice usually 50/50. It is available in colorless or colored versions and reliably protects the battery cooling system, electric motor, and power electronics from corrosion, deposits, overheating, and frost. Key components include cooling plates and cooling channels, heat sinks, radiators, water pumps, and heat exchangers.
A major advantage of LECC is its ability to maintain low conductivity even under high thermal loads, such as during the battery charging process or in hybrid drives with combustion engines. This ensures a permanently high level of electrical safety. Thanks to its good passivation, LECC protects materials in both low-temperature circuits (battery operation) and high-temperature applications.
These fluids reliably protect battery systems, electric motors, and power electronics from corrosion, deposits, overheating, and frost. In order for them to develop their full protective effect, these media must be handled with particular care: even the smallest material defects or incorrect handling can lead to ion exchange – and dangerously increase conductivity.
At Autotestgeräte Leitenberger, you will find the right testing technology and accessories:
- Non-ferrous metal-free, tested tools developed for the safe handling of LECC/LCC
- Pressure and leak testing devices for cooling circuits in battery and power electronics systems
- Measurement technology for temperature, flow, and conductivity for precise monitoring
