Quick-Connect Fittings for Air Conditioning Systems

Quick-connect fittings establish a detachable connection between the test or service hose and the designated service port on the vehicle’s air conditioning system.

Since the connections vary depending on the refrigerant, the fitting used must be specifically designed for the respective air conditioning system.

For R134a air conditioning systems, for example, suitable high- and low-pressure quick-connect fittings are available. For R1234yf and R744, however, appropriately designed fittings and components are required.

In addition to the connection geometry, particular attention must be paid to the permissible pressure range of the accessories used.

Checking Temperature and Cooling Capacity

In addition to pressure and leak tests, temperature measurement can also provide important insights when diagnosing a vehicle’s air conditioning system.

A digital dual-channel thermometer allows two temperatures to be measured simultaneously and compared with one another. This makes it possible, for example, to determine temperature differences between various measurement points or between ambient air and cooled outlet air.

A differential temperature measurement allows for a direct comparison of both readings under the same operating conditions.

Which measurement points, operating conditions, and target temperatures are used for evaluation depends on the specific vehicle and the manufacturer’s specifications.

For the actual leak test or leak detection, the appropriate air conditioning leak testers and leak detectors are also required.
